It’s about PIZZA today. I know we all like it. So I thought of making a little healthy version of it. Not entirely off course , I mean come on there is no pizza without cheese. It comes down to the point what all we can do to make a healthier version of pizza? Here is what I can think of – Whole wheat thin crust, lots of vegetable and less cheese (but we all love cheese and its always more the better 🙂 ,may  be just ignore this once in a while)

Lets get straight to business.

Whole Wheat Crust –

Ingredients:

  • Water – 1/2 cup, lukewarm
  • Dried active yeast – 1 tbs
  • Sugar – 1/4 tbs
  • Whole weat flour – 2 cups
  • Olive oil – 1 tbs
  • Salt – to taste
  1. In water dissolve sugar and add yeast.Cover it with cloth and keep it aside in nice and warm place, for about 15 to 20 mins. This step is required to prof the yeast but if you are using instant then you don’t have to this. Just follow the instruction on the pack.( Note – Temperature of water is so important it should not be cold and also not to hot, it might kill the yeast.)
  2. After removing the cloth if yeast has properly activated it will turn foamy and you will be able to dissolve it in water.img_20160820_184610_hdr.jpg
  3. Mix flour, salt and olive oil and make dough out of it. You can adjust by adding more water or flour. Just don’t add too much of additional flour because yeast may fall less for that quantity.
  4. Rub some olive oil on the surface and let it proof. You can cover the bowl with clear rap or just put kitchen towel on it. Keep it aside for about 45 mins.

You can make dough in advance or even if you have leftover, I usually wrap the dough (just the dough not dough in a bowl) in clear wrap and keep it in fridge. When you want to use it take it out about half an hour before so that temperature can settle.

Sauce –

You can either use any store bought pizza sauce that you like or you can find easy tomato sauce recipe from my earlier blog. And if you wish you can use marinara sauce as well.

Toppings –

You can use any vegetable that you like. Here I am using :

  • Capsicum
  • Yellow bell peeper
  • Red bell peeper
  • Tomatoes
  • Onions

I prefer chopping them in very small pieces so that you can put more of them.img_20160820_212015_hdr.jpg

Cheese –

I use combination on mozzarella and cheddar cheese. When I posted my lasagna recipe I got message from a lady on facebook asking for, which cheese that I use because her’s was not melted. Cheddar cheese is the one that is going to melt and smear all across the pizza and mozzarella is the one that will give it the thread kind of texture when you split and take the piece.

Assembly and Baking –

  1. Pre-heat your oven to 200° , for about 10 mins.
  2. Take your dough and using knife cut it in equal portions. Usually with this measurement I end up getting 4. But it also depends on the size of your baking tray.
  3. Roll your dough. Remember, we are making thin base. With whole wheat if your base is thick it is going to be so heavy to eat. I roll them slightly thicker than “Roti”. (Note: Whole wheat base will rise up but less than the base made out of all purpose flour)

    img_20160820_213720_hdr.jpg
For rolling the dough and dusting pizza tray I use all purpose flour as it is finer.
  4. If it gets difficult to roll with roller then use your hands, it doesn’t have to be smooth on surface.
  5. Brush olive oil on baking tray, dust some flour and slide your base on it.If you do everything on board then it will be very difficult to transfer that on baking tray.
  6. Now brush some olive oil on the surface of pizza base.
  7. Time to smear tomato sauce. There is no limit of how much you should put that on base. Put as much as you like.img_20160820_213058003.jpg
  8. Drum roll please, time to throw some cheese on it. Again you can put as much as you want but try to control your emotions and put less 😛 .img_20160820_213225853.jpg
  9. Top it with vegetables.img_20160820_213341348.jpg
  10. Put it in oven for baking for about 15 mins. Keep eye on it. If it is over baking still you can eat it but corner of the crust will become harder.
  11. When you feel like it is done keep it for broil for 2 mins.

And there you have it. Your homemade pizza is ready. Garnish with oregano and some chilly flakes serve it along glass of cold drink. Perfect for a movie night dinner. Hope this will help everyone to make their cooking fun and keeping their audience interested. 😉 screenshot_2016-09-01-13-35-18_com.instagram.android_1472717156125.jpg
